Two Female Leaders Death – Obituary
Montgomery County mourns two female leaders passed away in recent days. Former County Trustee Brenda Radford and Lettie Kendall, Former county commissioner and longtime educator.
Radford, 64, who had represented District 2 for two decades, died July 1 after a sudden illness. she ran for a public office in 1998 and served two terms as a county commissioner. In 2006, she was elected as county trustee, serving three terms before retiring in 2018.
While Kendall was employed by the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System since 1961 and taught in the system for 17 years.
Sources say that Kendall began her teaching career in New Providence Elementary School, which was renovated into a community center and later named the Lettie M. Parker Kendall Community Center. A local community park also was named after her. In addition to being the longest-serving county commissioner in Montgomery County, Kendall was also the first African-American woman to serve on the commission and the first woman to serve on its budget committee.
