Yesterday, we lost a great friend and co-worker, Nicoletta Granstaff. I’m devasted, saddened and shaken by her sudden passing. 14 years ago, I began the second act of my career at then, CBS Radio, and this beautiful, loving and always-happy soul immediately welcomed and embraced me. She unselfishly shared so much about this business that I was just beginning to learn. We became fast friends and like family. Nic first starting calling me, “Big Daddy”, and I loved seeing her smile and hearing her laugh.
We exchanged text messages, just Saturday morning and a day later, I learn of her passing. It’s almost unbeliveable and so very hard, but as I shared with someone yesterday, “God is still God”. Nic’s transition was no surprise to Him, and though we will never fully understand, His ways are not our ways, and it is His will that shall be done. Please keep Nicoletta’s husband, Jason and the Samartano and Granstaff families in your thoughts and prayers. Larry B Davis posted on Facebook.
”On my first day of my big boy job/radio career at CBS Radio I sat in a small cubicle on the 4th floor. I was just an intern and didn’t know anything about the broadcast world or events. However that didn’t stop someone from befriending me from the very beginning with a huge smile, words of encouragement and an infectious laugh. And that person was Nicoletta Granstaff.
I made it right at the very end of the 102 JAMZ era and was one of the last “corner crew” inductees. As the years progressed, and moved from intern to coordinator to manager to director, Nicoletta always knew how to push me to be better and was a vital part of my growth both professionally and personally.
It’s not everyday you find sales reps that walk into your office and say, “I’ve got x amount of money on the line for this client and I want more so what’s your big idea and how can we top it?” and best of all would almost always close that deal.
To building block parties at Food & Wine Fest to Toy Drives to even male revue shows, this girl would bring me into some crazy sales opportunities and we’d always make it work. “What the hell were we thinking?!?!?” was a very common expression between us. She was a fighter and would become someone I’d consider a great mentor and friend.
I’m so glad I had all the opportunities with you including our secret Fireball shots at events to celebrate a job well done. You introduced me to some amazing people in this community including your amazing husband Jason who I send all my love to.” Nicholas Smith posted on Facebook.
