”His photos were beautiful and helped tell the story of the golden age of bodybuilding. You have heard me say I’m not a self-made man over and over – people like Jimmy are a big reason why. He was one of the first people I met when I arrived in the United States for the Mr. Universe in Miami and he was always there for me and the sport, helping to popularize bodybuilding and spread our images all over the world. My thoughts are with his family.” Arnold Schwarzenegger posted on Facebook.
” We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of one of the true gentleman in our sport, Jimmy Caruso. He will be sadly missed. RIP.” Arnold Sports Festival posted on Facebook.
”Rest in Peace to the great physique photographer Jimmy Caruso. Jimmy would have been 96 years old this year. He was responsible for some of the most iconic bodybuilding photographs in history. Jimmy worked for Joe Weider’s Muscle Builder/Power magazine going way back to the 1960’s. He was one of the first people to photograph Arnold when he competed in Miami Beach, Florida in 1968 (losing the Mr. Universe contest to Frank Zane). Jimmy was also an excellent bodybuilding coach and he was primarily responsible for getting Roy Callender to give up professional wrestling and get back to competing in bodybuilding in order to fulfill his enormous potential. Under Jimmy’s guidance, Roy won the 1977 IFBB Mr. Canada and the IFBB Mr. Universe that year and became one of the best professional bodybuilders in the IFBB during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Thanks to John Balik and Wayne Gallasch for the sad update on Jimmy’s passing…” Bodybuilding Legends Show posted on Facebook.
