Death – Obituary

John Joseph Anderson, 58, was born in Akron, Ohio and spent most of his life in the North Hill area. He passed away in peace on December 13, 2021 after a long illness. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A Christian man of strong faith, his home is now with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Mathers; father, John A. Anderson, and his cheerful roommate, Richard Andrews. He is survived by his son, Nathan Anderson; former wife, Sandra Anderson; his sister, April Buck and her husband Dan Buck; nephew, Holden Buck; half-brothers, Johnny and Jamie Samples; close family friend, Aunt Linda DeFago; devoted girlfriend, Linda Thomas, and his cat, Huggie. He will be remembered for his love of family, exuberant kindness, acts of service, time spent laughing with his sister, love of animals, and delicious cooking. A special thank you goes to Summa Hospice and Kent Healthcare and Rehabilitation for the excellent care, comfort and happiness you gave. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date and suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations of time and resources can be made to Summa Health Systems (Ph. 330.375.3000), and/or to the Summit County Animal Control shelter at 250 Opportunity Parkway, Akron OH 44307 (Ph. 330.643.2845).

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
