Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police’s Grenville County detachment responded at around 10:30 p.m. to a two-vehicle collision between a pickup truck and a passenger car on County Road 2 and Galop Canal Road, OPP confirmed on Sunday.

The two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, said police.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital, OPP said. The other driver was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police closed a section of County Road 2 overnight as OPP technical collision investigators helped with the investigation. Authorities have ordered a post-mortem examination, while police continued to investigate the cause of the collision.

OPP arrested a 36-year-old man from Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township and charged him with impaired driving causing death and driving while over the legal blood alcohol concentration.

Police seized the driver’s licence and had his vehicle towed. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on Jan. 7.

As of Sunday, police were not identifying either the victim or the accused.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
