Death – Obituary

BUCKEYE, AZ (3TV/CBS5) – One man is dead and another man is in the hospital after a shooting involving officers in Buckeye on Sunday afternoon.

The shooting was reported around 3 p.m. near Verrado Way and Park Meadows Drive. Bob Sanders, assistant police chief of Buckeye Police Department, says two men were fighting on the sidewalk when officers arrived. One officer attempted to give commands to the suspect, but the suspect did not follow the officer’s orders and refused to drop a knife in his hand.

“The officer fired to defend the person on the ground,” said Sanders.

Sanders says early indications say the two men fighting were father and son, but police are still investigating their relationship. The man who was shot died on the scene. Sanders says the other man had multiple gunshot wounds but is in stable condition at the hospital.

Police say a handgun belonging to the suspect was found on the sidewalk. According to City of Buckeye officials, no officers were injured during the incident.

According to Sanders, the officer involved in the shooting is a two-year veteran and has been placed on leave. The investigation is ongoing.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
