Death – Obituary

Oceanside police are investigating a homicide possibly involving family members after a person was found dead at a home Sunday night.

Police were called to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Ely Street at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Oceanside PD PIO Jennifer Atenza. Officers attempted CPR, but the man, identified as Samuel Pina, was pronounced dead at the scene, Atenza said.

Moments later, a car police believed to be connected with the shooting approached the house. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off, according to Atenza. Officers followed in pursuit.

Atenza said the driver then crashed at Oceanside Blvd and Foussat Road, exited the car and began to run away. After a brief on foot pursuit, officers arrested the suspect, who was identified as 23-year-old Adrian Pina.

Adrian Pina was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a murder charge.

Oceanside police’s Crimes of Violence Unit continues to investigate the homicide.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
