A motorist has died following a road traffic collision involving a bus and a car in Co Wicklow.

Gardaí said the incident happened on the M11 Dublin to Wexford road at Ballynabarney at around 9.50pm on Monday.

“The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a Garda spokesman, who added that no other serious injuries had been reported following the crash.

He said the main M11 southbound lane between Junction 16 and 17 was closed on Tuesday morning and that local diversions were place while forensic collision investigators examined the scene of the crash.

The man was the seventh person to die on the island’s roads in less than 24 hours.

Three men in their 20s were killed when a car and a lorry were involved in crash in Garvaghy, Co Tyrone in the early hours of Monday morning. A fourth man, also in his 20s, was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Meanwhile, a cyclist in his 80s died in Dublin on Monday after a collision on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot shortly before 1pm.

In Co Mayo, a man died following a two car collision at around 5.35pm at the entrance to Breaffy House Hotel on the Castlebar to Balla Road.

In Co Wexford, a man in his early 20s was killed and a woman seriously injured in a two-car collision at about 5.20pm at Ballintore, Ferns.

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
