CLEVELAND — A 43-year-old man is dead after being hit by a pickup truck early Tuesday morning on Interstate 90 in Cleveland.

According to police, the victim had been driving his own vehicle eastbound in Tremont when he was involved in an initial accident near the Fairfield Avenue overpass. He then began walking north in the left lane when he was struck by a Ford Ranger just before 2 a.m.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, died from his injuries at the scene. The 57-year-old man driving the pickup was unhurt in the crash.

The collision shut down that portion of I-90 east for a period of time this morning. It has since been reopened.

This incident remains under investigation. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
