Death – Obituary

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – One person has been killed and another has been critically injured following a shooting Tuesday night outside of a smoke shop in Lincoln Park, police say.

According to authorities, at about 8:50 p.m., two people were struck by gunfire at a smoke shop on Southfield Road near Applewood Avenue. One of the individuals, a 39-year-old resident from River Rouge, reportedly died at the scene. The other injured person was taken to the hospital and is in serious, officials said.

Police say the suspected shooter fired a weapon at the victims’ vehicle outside of the store. It is unclear how many shots were fired.

The suspected shooter reportedly fled the scene, heading toward Ecorse following the shooting. Police believe the two victims were targeted, and that this was “not a random incident.”

No other details have been provided at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
