The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting in Ackerman Park at about 10:48 p.m. Wednesday.

An 18-year-old male was struck and killed by gunfire, according to authorities. When deputies arrived at the park at 400 Apex Road in Sarasota, they located a deceased teenager in a nearby parking lot.

Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives determined a large group of 40 to 50 people gathered in the park when several gunshots were fired, one of which struck the victim in the back. No other injuries were reported.

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case.
