Ella Henderson has detailed the tragic passing of her friend Paige Dougall from bone cancer as she dedicated her new song to her ‘absolute angel.’  

The singer, 25, announced that Paige had tragically passed away from the disease aged 17 after a two year battle on Thursday. 

In a heartfelt post to Instagram, Ella dedicated her new track Brave to her friend, who ‘had an energy that could consume a whole room.’

Ella shared a candid tearful photo as she detailed ‘how life can be so beautiful one minute but then so f****** hard to swallow the next.’ 

Alongside the image she penned a lengthy caption: ‘To all my fans and anyone reading… I know my feed is about to become promo heavy & be all about my new single ‘Brave’ as it comes out at midnight tonight. 

‘However, today has been a strange day for me. Today I received the news that we lost one of the bravest human beings I have EVER come across in my entire 25yrs.

She continued: ‘Her name was Paige & she was an absolute angel who did not deserve to be taken away this soon. You were so full of soul, life & had an energy that could consume a whole room!’

‘I know your mummy & my mummy are both called Michelle & I just wanna say from a daughter to a mother that you are one incredible, strong woman & I am here to be yours & your family’s friend for life – just like I was Paige’s.

‘This post isn’t for any other reason than me wanting to tell everyone how life can be so beautiful one minute but then so f****** hard to swallow the next… which is exactly why I wrote this song that I am about to release. This one is for you Paige. My brave little star.

This comes as, Ella spoke about her ten year ‘wild ride’ since The X Factor as she candidly discussed what that meant for her mental health on Friday.

The singer revealed her struggles with her mental health and anxiety in conversation with Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond on ITV’s This Morning.   

They sat down to reflect on Ella’s career highlights and her time on the X Factor ahead of her second album which will be released later this year.

As they looked back on the snippets, Ella explained: ‘Watching it is weird, it’s like a ten year full cycle, it feels like yesterday and also ages ago.’

She added how Dermot, who previously presented the show, took her ‘under his wing’ as she thanked him for his support.  

Ella detailed: ‘I’d never seen London so you took us all on a walk and it was so kind.’

Reflecting on the moment that the X-factor skyrocketed her career she admitted that she never thought she would reach the finals. 

‘I never thought I’d get to the live shows, I thought I’d go back to school and do my A-levels, and the journey since has been a wild ride. I’m in a happy place now and excited to release my second album!’, she confessed.

Ella described her experience as she navigated her new life style after the success within the music industry.   

‘I’ve never stopped writing and creating. So much happened to me at such a young age. It went crazy and all I knew was travelling and promoting’, she said. 

‘When I came back I didn’t know where my home was and who my friends were. I didn’t feel settled.’

After struggling with the pressures of being in the limelight from a young age she revealed the importance of stepping away and taking a break.

She expressed how she was able to return to music with fresh material following her four year hiatus that helped her ‘live’ and experience more from life. 

She candidly explained: ‘I needed to live a bit. It gave me stuff to write about. The new album will bring fans up to speed on what’s been going on in my life.’

Ella’s brand new song Brave, launched today ahead of her album as she detailed her inspiration behind the track. 

The singer opened up about her experiences and remaining strong during tough times.

Brave dropped January 7 and Ella’s second album Everything I Didn’t Say will be available on March 11.

Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case.
