Death – Obituary

Luciano Rivera, Jr., 76, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on January 5, 2022, at Martin Boyd Christian Home.

 

He was a resident of Bronx, New York, for many years. Four years ago, he relocated from New York to Ooltewah, to be with his sister and family. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired U.S. Postal Service Examiner in Bronx, NY.

 

He was a loving and kind-hearted brother, son, uncle and friend. He had a loving heart and soul, and was a music and movie lover. He loved his New York Yankees and was a baseball fan till the end. His nickname was “Lucky”.

 

Lucky was preceded in death by his loving parents, Luciano Sr and Carmen; Brothers, Rafael, Angel, Francisco, Felix; and Sisters, Carmen, Mirna, Rosa, Elba.

 

He is survived by his sisters, Celia Rivera Ortiz (Faustino) (Oklahoma),and Debra Rivera Acosta (Hector) (Tennessee); and the many many nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be on Jan. 12, at The National Cemetery in Chattanooga.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
