Death – Obituary

Cherie W. McCune, 79, passed away after a brief illness on January, 2022 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She was born February 5, 1942, in Barberton to Earl L. McCune and Winifred J. McCune. Cherie spent most of her life living in her childhood home in Kenmore and spent her final few years in Cuyahoga Falls. Cherie graduated from Kenmore High School in 1960 and began a career at Ohio Bell upon graduation, first working at 80 W. Bowery, then transferring to the Brecksville location, after early retirement, she began a second career at Hartville Collectibles. Her interests included spending time with her family, collecting precious moments and porcelain dolls and spending time with animals. Cherie is survived by her nephew, Earl M. McCune (Lori) of Cuyahoga Falls; great nieces, Lorianna McCune and Kaitlyn Vaughn; great nephew, Alexander McCune; cousin, Julie Combs (Robert) of Norton; cousin, David Miller and Alexandra Wroblewski of Akron; great nephew, Donald L. McCune (Leighann) of Akron; and niece, Suzette Moon also of Akron. She was preceded in death by parents Earl L. McCune and Winifred J. McCune; her brother, Roy W. McCune; sister-in-law, Julieann McCune; and half brother, Donald McCune and his wife, Barbara McCune; and her companion for many years, Dick Morse of Barberton. Visitation will be on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m. at Bacher Moore Funeral Home. 3326 Manchester Road Akron, Ohio 44319. Funeral Service will be at Bacher Moore on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 10 a.m. with internment at Greenlawn Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service. What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
