Herman Joseph Friedrich, Jr.

White Township – Herman Joseph Friedrich, Jr., 95, of White Township passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls PA.

Herman was born on March 9, 1926 in Beaver Falls, the son of the late Herman J. Friedrich and Hazel M. (Stanyard) Friedrich. He was preceded in death by his dear wife 62 years, Margaret G. Friedrich who passed away on May 28, 2020.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings Dorothea Williams, Eleanor O’Neil and Betty Easley. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and many good friends and neighbors. Herm enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Artillery Company 14th Infantry Regiment, 71st Infantry Division during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the crossings over the Rhine River, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Army Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired in 1988 from the former Morrow Motors in Beaver Falls where he was an automobile mechanic for 40 years. He was a member of the former College Hill Presbyterian Church and a current member of Steffin Hill United Presbyterian Church and the Beaver Falls American Legion, Post 261.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 5-7 PM and Thursday from 2 PM until time of service at 4:00 PM, in the HILL AND KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, www.hillandkunselman , 3801 Fourth Avenue, Beaver Falls.

Members of the Veteran’s Honor Guard will meet at the funeral home Thursday at 3:30 PM to conduct military honors.

Private Interment will be in Beaver Falls Cemetery.

Herman requested that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa, PA 15001

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
