Paul J. Johnson

Palm Springs – Paul J Johnson was born in Gatesville, Texas and died at home on December 27,2021 in Palm Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents John H Johnson and Edna Pearl Johnson, sisters; Marguerite, Helen, Belva, Willie Frances and Dorothy, brothers; Oatha, Joe and Ralph. He was also preceded in death by two sons; Dennis Russell Johnson, Johnny Victor Johnson and grandson Christopher Johnson. Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years Aurora “Mickey” Johnson, his children Barbara, Paul, Kenneth, Stefanie, Mark and Paula, and their spouses. Paul and Mickey were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Paul proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was stationed at Camp El Toro when he met and married Mickey. They lived in Orange County, California until January 1963 when they moved to Palm Springs where Paul started his business; Paul Johnson Heating and Air Conditioning. “PJ” and “Mickey” lived in the same home from 1963 to the present. They raised their seven children there and welcomed their many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A family graveside service will be held on Friday, January 14 at 1:30 pm, at Desert Memorial Park.

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
