Melissa Ann Bennett

Raymond – Melissa Ann Bennett, 32, passed away on January 8, 2022 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was born June 23, 1989 in Exeter, NH, daughter of Douglas Bennett and Ann (Connell) Bennett.

Melissa grew up and lived all her life in Raymond, NH. She was one of two children in her family. Melissa graduated from both the Raymond High School and the Seacoast School of Technology, Class of 2008. In 2010, Melissa became very involved with Friends in Action in Portsmouth which is an organization set up to assist people living with developmental disabilities. In conjunction with Friends in Action, Melissa was active with Wildcat Friends at the University of NH which would allow her to visit UNH and spend a day in the life at the school with some of the students there in the classroom and in the dorms. Melissa was very social and enjoyed a program called Friday Night Social that was every other Friday night at the Greenleaf Center in Portsmouth where the participants would for instance have pizza, do dancing or various other activities. Then Phillip Exeter Academy ran a program on every other Tuesday where Melissa would go to the school and do karaoke, baking, crafting and various other activities. Melissa was able to make several Family Conferences for the National Niemann Pick Disease Foundation which was a highlight that Melissa looked forward to making annually. She enjoyed traveling and her favorite trip was to the Island of Dominica that she went to with her mother who had earned the vacation from her sales work. Melissa’s life was the light in her family’s world. She knew no strangers and she will be greatly missed.

Melissa is survived by her mother, Ann Bennett, father, Douglas Bennett, paternal grandmother, Margaret Bennett, brother and his companion, Joel Bennett and Brandi Boston, and Brandi’s daughter, Marlaina, uncle, Jeff Connell and wife Joan of York, ME, uncle, Bill Connell of Cincinnati, Ohio, aunt, Joan Walton and husband Stu of Westford, MA., many loving cousins, and close family friends, Stephen Daniel and Alyssa Rowe of Northwood, NH

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 3:00-6:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond, NH.

There are no other funeral services planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Friends in Action, the National Niemann Pick Disease Foundation, or to the Ara Parseghian Foundation.

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
