Death – Obituary

Cynthia Anne Andes, 69, of Sumerduck, died surrounded by her beloved family at home January 12, 2022.

She was born May 26,1952, in Rockingham County,

to the late Charles and Nadine Josephine Curry.

In addition to her husband, Wayne Andes, she is survived by her children, Cathy Hartman, Tammy Mennor (Mark), Billy Gray (Emily) and Kyle Gray; her siblings, Leonard Cullers, Mary Jo Belcher, Danny Curry, Anita Bennett-Hope and Crystal Ward; seven grandchildren, Julie Bayless, Joshua Hartman, Amber Gray, Hunter Pomeroy, Logan Gray, Brianna Gray and Garrett Creek, and a great-grandchild, Annabelle Stewart.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Debora Curry.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. The service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Midland Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 10434 Old Carolina Road, Midland.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, Midland Church of The Brethren, and/or any volunteer fire and rescue company.

What Is An Obituary

In national newspapers an obituary (obit for short) is a news article that reports the recent death of a prominent person. Although it tends to focus on positive aspects of the subject’s life this is not always the case. According to Nigel Farndale, the Obituaries Editor of The Times: “Obits should be life affirming rather than gloomy, but they should also be opinionated, leaving the reader with a strong sense of whether the subject lived a good life or bad; whether they were right or wrong in the handling of their public affairs.”

In local newspapers, an obituary may be published for any local resident upon death. A necrology is a register or list of records of the deaths of people related to a particular organization, group or field, which may only contain the sparsest details, or small obituaries. Historical necrologies can be important sources of information.
